sgt. - perception of casuality [2005]

sgt. were formed in 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. Their instrumentation is unique in the sense that they've added a violin to the line-up of the otherwise standard rock instruments, drums, guitar and bass guitar. Perception of casuality was their first, a mini-album released in 2005, containing a strong 5-piece of instrumental tracks. It's not their best, but it's their first, and it's still very, very good! I'll be uploading more of them later on.

miimi - ephyra [2008]

miimi, a four piece indie rock band from Japan with elements of post- and noise-rock. They started out small in 2002, but did not really do anything in particular before 2005 when they started writing. Their debut album, ephyra, released in 2008 is a mix of sugar and spice and everything nice. The female vocals are very well performed and it fits surprisingly well on anything the band throws out, be it dreamy or heavy/noisy. Most of the time, the ensemble stays somewhere in between the two definitions, just where you and I like it! Definitely worth a check out.

儉德大廈 - 在森林和原野 (Kim Tak Building - In the Forest and the Field) [2006]

儉德大廈, an instrumental post-rock band from Hong Kong. The name is taken from a building in Hong Kong where they also released their debut album, 在森林和原野 , in 2006. The music is introverted, it somehow makes you think about things. The soundscape doesn't really change much throughout the album, it all moves in one direction, but it's not too one-dimensional. It's like everything builds up to certain hot-spots of some songs. 儉德大廈 are most certainly the pioneers of post-rock in Hong Kong. Definitely an album to sit back and relax with.

우리는 속옷도 생겼고 여자도 늘었다네 (Oorineun Sokotdo Saenggyutgo Yujado Neurutdanae)

우리는 속옷도 생겼고 여자도 늘었다네, a now defunct post-rock band from Seoul, Korea formed around year 2000, recorded two albums, 사랑의 유람선 (2003) and a self titled (2006). Their sound has a laidback feel to it, sometimes with subtle electronic elements. The two releases differ from eachother in its sound and structure. The 2003 release, 사랑의 유람선, or "Cruise of Love"/"Love Boat", has a more developed and varied sound than the self titled release (roughly translated to "We have underwear and also girls"). What the latter lacks in the sonic spectrum, it pays up with structural pieces. Silence suddenly breaking out into exploding sounds is wonderful when done right, and these guys know how to!

about tess - beautiful [2008]

about tess, an instrumental math-rock band formed in Tokyo, Japan around 2005/2006 consisting of six members. Their music has a very high energy and density. It is simply massive, massive like a brickwall flying towards your face (if by any chance that would happen!)
Their 2008 release, beautiful, is definitely a high recommendation. It should simply be in any math/noise-rock fan's collection!

ルルル - ルルル (rururu - rururu) [2006]

ルルル are a post-rock quartet from Tokyo, Japan (correct me on this one if it's not right.. I only suspect they are from Tokyo, haha,) formed in early 2003. Their music carries out a lot of emotion in a cascade of sounds. They have elements of noise rock, often accompanied by a dreamy vocal placed right in the middle. This is a band you simply must not miss out on!

酸素十倍 - ザッツオール (sanso juubai - zattsuoru) [2006]

酸素十倍, an experimental post-rock band based in Yokohama and Shimokitazawa in Japan, started out in 2004 by high school friends as a live act. The young band has a very unique and almost mystical sound, which is apparent in their 2006 release, ザッツオール. This EP only has 3 songs, clocking in at a total of 11 minutes and 16 seconds, and definitely leaves you craving for more! Very little signs of the band has been shown on the internet for a few years, which is saddening. Let's hope they are still alive and kicking, because this is truly a gem.

酸素十倍 have played concerts with bands such at the instrumental act, te', as well as the j-rock outfit, 9mm Parabellum Bullet.
